Random
This is used to specify the number of times a bristle will be drawn at random locations for each rendering cycle.

The values for Coverage Area will determine how compact the overall distribution is- the effect is much like increase/decreasing the size of a brush. The following sample uses a 40 x 40 square bristle with its Quantity value set to 35, Coverage Height set to 100, and Coverage Width set to 100:
