Tutorial - Working with wood textures - 3

1 | 2 | 3 |

These texutures were made by first creating larger "block-type" bristles for greater coverage. Depending on the desired "feel", the Alpha is either set to high Density, low Alpha (for a softer appearance), or around 1/3 Alpha with a higher density setting for a rougher appearance. Anywhere from two to four of these (each having a different color) are used simultaneously to block in the foundation. Different effects can be achieved depending on whether the strokes are vertical, horizontal, or diagonal.

After the foundation is in place, one or more layers are created to contain the detail. This detail can be painted using straight vertical lines, odd shapes - whatever will give the desired results. It will most likely take some experimentation, but as is evident from the samples, a wide range of results can be achieved with just minor changes to the bristles. For reference, each sample is accompanied by the brush used to create it.
